Men's Soccer Alum Spotlight - Eric Trejo

6/2/2026 12:29:00 PM

Men's soccer and sports information will be taking advantage of the off-season months to catch up with some of our men's soccer alum to reflect on their experience at Dominican University (or Rosary College).  Today we catch up with Eric Trejo from the class of 1993.

What have you been up to since graduating from Dominican?

Professionally, I have spent the past three decades working in various areas of International Corporate Banking with some of the world's largest financial institutions. In 2023, I transitioned into insurance brokerage, where I now specialize in trade credit risk solutions across multiple industries. My role focuses on helping clients anticipate, quantify, protect against, and recover from the "what ifs" of business in today's increasingly uncertain global environment. I work with organizations of all sizes to develop innovative strategies that better measure and manage credit risk.

Personally, I have been married for more than 22 years and am proud to be the father of three children: Emerson ("Eme"), Alex, and Lucas. Eme is currently in her second year at Harper College studying child development. Alex is graduating from high school and is ranked among the top 110-meter hurdlers in the state. Lucas is in sixth grade and recently celebrated a Pre-ECNL National Championship with his travel soccer team.

In my limited free time, I also serve as a part-time goalkeeper trainer for Force FC's travel soccer program, which allows me to stay connected to the game that has always been an important part of my life.

What do you miss most about Dominican?

Beyond the relationships with my teammates, I miss the overall experience of campus life. Dominican provided a unique sense of independence while also creating opportunities to build meaningful relationships with fellow students, professors, and mentors. It was a time of tremendous personal growth, both academically and socially.

What was your most memorable moment while at Dominican?

It is difficult to narrow it down to one specific moment because my most memorable experiences came from the entire journey we shared as teammates and classmates. Whether we were competing on the pitch or working together in the classroom, there was a strong sense of belonging and purpose.

Looking back now, I appreciate even more the bonds we formed through the challenges and rewards of being student-athletes. The hard work, discipline, and commitment required to succeed both academically and athletically created relationships and memories that have lasted far beyond graduation. It was truly about being part of something bigger than yourself.

What advice would you give to an incoming player?

Stay humble and embrace every moment, because your time as a student-athlete goes by faster than you realize. Challenge yourself academically, athletically, and personally, because this experience is an important steppingstone before entering the professional world.

Take full advantage of everything the university has to offer. Be more than just an athlete. Get involved in academic organizations, campus activities, and community service opportunities. Build relationships, step outside your comfort zone, and do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Most importantly, be authentic and stay true to yourself. The relationships, lessons, and experiences you gain during this time will stay with you long after your playing career ends.
