Dominican to Host First Two Rounds of NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Committee announced the field of 61 teams for the 2011 Division III Championship today, which begins Nov. 10 and concludes with the national championship Dec. 3.  Forty-one conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the 2011 championship, including the Northern Athletics Conference, whose six-time champion, Dominican University, was named a host institution as the Central Region’s No. 1 team.

Dominican will host first and second round matches on Nov. 11 and 12 on West Campus Field, as the Stars are slated to match up against the Greenville College Panthers for an 11 a.m. kickoff Friday. The other two members of the quad include the Hope College Flying Dutchmen and the Thomas More Saints, who will square off at 1:30 p.m.  Winners of Friday’s matches will then advance to the 1 p.m. second-round match on Saturday.

The Stars earned their tenth-straight bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship via an automatic qualification as Northern Athletics Conference Tournament champions.  Their 2011 campaign stands at 18-2 overall, and includes a perfect 11-0 record in NAC play.  The Stars have already faced one of the members of their quad this season, as they defeated Hope College 2-0 on Sept. 9. They also have history with the other two teams in the quad, as they went two overtimes against Thomas More in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Championship before defeating the Saints 2-1, and have faced their 2011 first round opponent, the Greenville Panthers, in a 2008 regular season match that the Stars won 4-0.

Greenville (13-6-3) enters the 2011 NCAA Championship for the second-straight year and third time in four years, as they earned the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with a 2-0 win over Webster University on Nov. 5.

Hope College (15-4-3) defeated Olivet College 4-1 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s title game to gain their 12th NCAA Championship appearance in school history.

Thomas More (15-1-1) rallied in overtime of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference title game to defeat Geneva College 3-2 and earn their third straight trip to the NCAA Championship.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate one hour before kickoff on Friday and Saturday.  Ticket prices are: $6 – general admission; $3 – students and seniors; $2 – children ages 3-12 (age 2 & under free).
