Box Score 2 The Dominican University women's volleyball team picked up two more victories on Friday night, improving to 10-2 on the season, knocking off St. Mary's College and Illinois Wesleyan University at the Carthage College Women's Volleyball Invitational.
In the three-set victory over St. Mary's (25-15, 25-16, 26-24),
Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo.) hit an impressive .667 to pace the Stars. Â The senior standout knocked down 12 kills on 18 attacks while committing no hitting errors.
Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) added ten kills and 12 digs while
Liz Yakey (Sun Prairie, Wis.) finished the match with a team-high 19 digs.
Dominican took four sets to beat the Illinois Wesleyan Titans in the Stars' nightcap, 18-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-18. Â In the match, Dezelski took team-high honors with 19 kills to lead four Stars' in double-digits. Â Freshman
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) chipped in 16 kills while Lawrence and
Becca Fritz (Mount Carroll, Ill.) added 12 and ten respectively.
Yakey again paced the Stars' defense, totaling 25 digs.
Dominican has now won eight straight matches. Â The Stars continue play in the Carthage College Invitational on Saturday, taking on St. Norbert College before taking on the host Lady Red, ranked 16th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 25 Poll.
