Stars Topple Warriors In Three Sets

Box Score The Dominican University women's volleyball team rolled to its fourth straight victory on Friday night, improving to 7-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with a three-set (25-18, 25-20, 25-12) win over the visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors.

The Stars were paced by Claire Dezelski's match-high 15 kills. The senior has carried the hot-hand for Dominican all year, leading the Stars in kills for the 17th time in 27 matches and posting double-digit kills for the 21st time on the season. Dezelski had just four hitting errors in the match, posting a .333 hitting percentage on 33 swings.

Setter Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) spread the rest of the offense around, dishing out 31 assists with Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) knocking down nine kills and Tessa Griparis (Shorewood, Ill.) adding six of her own.

Defensively, the Stars held the Warriors to just a .016 attack percentage, forcing 25 hitting errors, including nine total blocks for the Stars, while surrendering just 27 kills. Dezelski rounded out her team-leading 17th double-double effort of the season with a team-high 17 digs. Cheyanne Kelly (Kalamazoo, Mich.) added 15 digs of her own while Griparis posted five total blocks (one solo, four assisted).

The Stars stand at 18-9 overall and became the third team to clinch a spot in the 2013 NACC Women's Volleyball Tournament, joining the Edgewood College Eagles and Benedictine University Eagles. Dominican will look to keep pace on Saturday, traveling to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on the MSOE Raiders. The match is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start in the Kern Center.
