Box Score 2 The Dominican University volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 victories on Friday night at the Concordia University Chicago Fall Invite, knocking off Wheaton College 26-24, 25-17, 27-25 before beating Maranatha Baptist Bible College 25-20, 27-25, 25-19.
In the win over the Wheaton Thunder,
Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) picked up her eighth double-double of the season, totaling 15 kills and a match-high 17 digs to lead the Stars.
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) added 15 kills of her own and collected 12 digs as the Stars’ one-two punch knocked out the Thunder.
Becky Honerlaw (Waukesha, Wis.) continued to run a well-balanced offense for the Stars, dishing out 31 assists with four different Stars’ players taking at least eight swings. Honerlaw added two kills of her own on five attacks with no errors and defensively added nine digs.
Cheyanne Kelly (Kalamazoo, Mich.), the Stars’ libero, finished the match with 12 digs.
Dominican then shuffled over to the South Court at CUC’s Gieseman gymnasium where they met long-time conference foe, the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders, sending the Crusaders home with their second loss of the night.
Dezelski continued to shine in the win, posting a .323 attack percentage with a match-high 14 kills on 31 total swings with just four errors. Foote added 13 kills while freshman
Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) narrowly missed her first collegiate double-double with nine kills and ten digs.
Honerlaw continued to excel in just her tenth match as the Stars’ primary setter, picking up 38 assists in the winning effort.
Defensively, the Stars held the Crusaders to just a .061 attack percentage, collecting 47-digs in the three-set victory and posting nine total blocks, led by five assisted blocks for freshman
Tessa Griparis (Shorewood, Ill.) and four total blocks for Foote.
The Stars return to the court tomorrow, traveling back down Division Street for day two of the CUC Fall Invite. Dominican will take on Lake Forest College at 10:00 a.m. and then battle North Central College at 12:00 p.m.
