Stars Weekly 9/29/25

River Forest, Ill. – We are headed to the last week of September and the first week of October, and the fall sports are about halfway through their seasons.
 
Men's Soccer came into the week going 1-1 in NACC play, with two conference games on deck this past week. In the first game of the week, the Stars offense exploded to a 4-1 victory over Rockford University. Sophomore Jonathan Almaguer and Freshman Enzo Cinque both notched two goals in the game. Freshman Rogelio Cisneros picked up two assists on the four goals. In the second game of the week DU, traveled to St. Norbert College,  and Dominican struck in the first 27 seconds of the game with Junior Tristen Banquil scoring the goal that would be the game winner. Freshman Cody Leyba stood on business and made 6 saves to give Dominican the 1-0 win on the road. This upcoming week DUMSOC has two matches, the first is October 1st, where they will travel to Concordia Wisconsin, for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off against the Falcons. The second game is back at West Campus Field on October 4th, for their final non-conference game of the season against the North Central College Cardinals, kick-off between these schools is set for 12:00 p.m.

Women's Soccer had a busy week this past week, with three total games. Two NACC games and the other final non-conference game of the season. The first game of the week was in Bloomington, Ill., on Monday, September 22nd, with DU playing Illinois Wesleyan. The Stars came away with a big non-conference win with Senior Mia Dosen scoring in the 59th minute of the game. Sophomore Gianna Stanek was incredible for Dominican, collecting 9 saves, -yes you read that correctly, NINE SAVES -to bring home a 1-0 victory. DU went back to NACC play Wednesday, September 24th, traveling to Rockford, and the Stars brought the BOOM, scoring 7 first-half goals. Senior Sierra Rioux got the goal scoring partying going with goals in the 3rd and 14th minutes of the match. Freshman Lilana Arechiga collected her first collegiate goal of her young career in the 17th minute. Senior Kamryn Klinger struck her first collegiate goal in the 21st minute of the match. Junior Meghan Wilhite added goals in the 26th and 38th minutes of the match. Freshman Logan Shanks wanted in on the goal-scoring party, getting herself on the stat sheet with her third goal of the season in the 32nd minute of the game. In the final game of the week for the Stars, they headed to St. Norbert College. Dominican came out on top with a 2-0 victory. Senior Kamryn Klinger notched her second goal in as many games, and Senior Mia Dosen also scored her second goal of the week. After a three-game week, DUWSOC will only play one game this week, and it is back at West Campus Field. The Stars will host the Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1st.
 
Women's Volleyball is in the heart of their schedule with three games this week and three games next week. The Stars traveled to MSOE for their first game of the week and fell 3-1 to the Raiders. DU then traveled to Kalamazoo College for the Kalamazoo College Tri-Match, where the Stars played Albion College and Kalamazoo College, but Dominican fell 3-0 in both matches. DUWVB will play three matches this upcoming week, with two of them inside the Igini Sports Forum. The first game of the week, the Red Devils of Eureka College, comes to town on Tuesday, September 30th, for a 6:00 p.m. first serve. The next game is on October 2nd, with Dominican hosting Benedictine University for their NACC home opener. In the final game of the week the Stars will head up to Milwaukee, Wis., for a battle against Alverno College at 12:00 p.m.

Men's and Women's Cross Country had a week break and are gearing up for their travel to the University of Louisville for their next meet on October 4th.


Dominican Golf competed in the Clash at the Creek in Morris, Illinois this past week. The Stars were led by Sophomore Luka Stundins scored an 81. DU Golf will be right back in action on September 30th for the Benedictine University Eagle Invite at St. Andrews Golf Course in West Chicago, Ill.


 
 Stars of the Week for the week of September 22nd to September 28th:


Sophomore Jonathan Almaguer of the Men's Soccer team received the Men's Star of the Week Honors. Almaguer was on fire this past week for DU. Almaguer recorded 2 goals, 2 assists, and 8 shots with 6 of them on frame.

Sophomore Gianna Stanek of the Women's Soccer team received the Women's Star of the Week Honors. Stanek was perfect in the net for the Stars this past week. Stanek recorded 10 total saves, including 9 saves against Illinois Wesleyan. The Sophomore also recorded 2 clean sheets.
