River Forest, Ill. – Sophomore
Rhiannon Rubio of the Dominican University Softball team was named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Softball Pitcher Student Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 29
th.
Rubio, a sophomore pitcher from Lancaster, California, appeared in three of the four games this past week, while starting in the circle in two of the three appearances. Rubio's first start was at MSOE where the sophomore went 4 innings, only giving up 1 run and earning 1 strikeout in the 10-1 win over the Raiders in 5 innings. Rhiannon's second appearance was in a save situation with runners on the corners and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning at CUC. The sophomore only faced one batter in this situation as she got the Cougar hitter to line into a game-ending double play. In the second game at Concordia Chicago, Rubio started in the circle and went 7 innings, picking up 7 strikeouts in her complete game win over CUC.
Overall, for the week the sophomore pitcher for the Stars threw in 11.2 innings, only giving up three runs while collecting 8 strikeouts on the week. Rubio went 2-0 with a save and helped Dominican Softball to a 4-0 week.

Cristina Lukas commented on Rubio's NACC Pitcher of the Week by saying, "Rhi really stepped up big for us this week. She pitched lights out when we needed her the most."
Rubio and the Dominican University Softball team are currently riding a 6-game win streak and will be back in action this Saturday afternoon at Lakeland University. The first pitch between the Stars and Muskies is set for 12:00 p.m.
