Box Score Ashley Oliver (Bolingbrook, Ill.) poured in a career-high 23 points and
Katie Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) added 21 as the Dominican University women’s basketball team held off the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings for an 80-75 win in River Forest on Wednesday night.
Oliver, averaging 20.5 points in back-to-back wins for the Stars, was 6-for-15 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free throw line to lead the Stars who converted on 17 of 22 attempts from the charity stripe as a team.
Leading by just one, 63-62, with 6:30 remaining in the second half, Oliver sparked an 8-0 run for the Stars with a three, her second of the ball game. After a layup by
Laura Knieps (Tinley Park, Ill.), Budz connected from long range to put Dominican ahead 71-62 with 5:02 to play. The basket was the Stars final field goal of the game as Oliver and Budz went 9-for-10 from the free throw line combined in the final 2:33 to seal the victory.
Knieps had 12 points in the winning effort for the Stars while Anna Cepek led the Vikings with 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field.
The win improves the Stars’ record to 8-4 on the season. Dominican returns to Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action on Saturday, hosting the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum.
