Box Score The Dominican University women’s basketball team was on the short-side of 70-50 contest with the visiting Benedictine University Eagles on Tuesday evening in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action.
Laura Knieps (Tinley Park, Ill.) scored a season-high 26 points in the losing effort, going 12-for-16 from the field in 38 minutes of work.
The Eagles led from wire-to-wire as Kam Haifleigh scored on the Eagles’ first possession and Benedictine never looked back. The Eagles led by 14 at the half, 33-19, and led by as many as 23 in the second half.
The Stars, who have been plagued by turnovers, committed 27 turnovers leading to 21 points for the visiting Eagles.
Dominican shot over 41-percent from the field, 19-for-46, but managed to connect on just two of nine attempts from behind the three-point stripe.
Benedictine had three reach double-figures scoring, led by Meghan Novak’s 11 points off the bench. Haifleigh and Michelle Gaede finished the night with ten points apiece as the Eagles shot 28-for-66 from the field and converted on 13 of their 18 attempts from the foul line.
The loss drops the Stars to 0-19 on the season and 0-11 in NAC play. The Stars return to the hardwood on Saturday when the Eagles of Edgewood College come down to River Forest for a 2:00 p.m. tip in the Igini Sports Forum.
