Box Score The Dominican University women’s basketball team erased a 15-point first half deficit but ran out of gas down the stretch, falling to visiting Concordia University Chicago Cougars 81-70 in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action in River Forest on Tuesday night.
Stacy Reynolds (La Grange Park, Ill.) scored 12 second-half points to fuel the Stars’ comeback, including a lay-in with under nine minutes to play to give Dominican a brief 59-58 lead and force a Cougar timeout. Out of the timeout, Krystyna Rickett, who was a rebound shy of triple-double, drove to the basket to put the Cougars back on top as they outscored the Stars 23-11 over the final 8:26. Rickett, ranked second in the NAC in free throw percentage, connected on six of six attempts from the foul line in the final minute to ice the win.
Laura Knieps (Tinley Park, Ill.) scored a team-high 21 points for the Stars in the losing effort. The Stars’ senior forward went 13-for-15 at the foul line in 28 minutes of action. Reynolds dropped in 15 and pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds while
Katie Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) and
Allie Tapanes (Winfield, Ill.) added 12 points and 11 points respectively to round out four players in double figures for Dominican.
Jessica Genke went 11-for-25 from the field to lead all scorers with 22 points for the Cougars. The 5’11 junior also pulled down a game-high 13 rebound and swatted seven shots in the all-around effort while Rickett finished with 16 points, ten assists and nine rebounds.
The loss drops Dominican to 1-22 heading into the final two games of the 2012-2013 season. On Saturday, the Stars will host the Alverno College Inferno for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum. Dominican will then close out the season on February 13, traveling to Rockford College.
