Stars Open Three-Game Homestand Against Cougars

River Forest, Ill. – The Dominican University Women’s Basketball opens up their three-game homestand against conference rivals Concordia University of Chicago.

The last time the Stars defeated the Cougars was on February 26, 2021, inside the Igini Sports Forum. The final score was 69-65. 

-This is the first and only matchup of the 2024-2025 season. 

DU in Review:

-The 2024-25 season is Head Coach Tethnie Carrillo's first with Dominican. 

-DU holds a 1-7 record in conference, with their win coming against Alverno on Saturday, January 11th by a final of 74-53. 

-The Stars hold a record of 2-6 inside the Igini Sports Forum. 

-DU looks to get their first conference win on their home court this season.


-Dominican's five wins on the season is already the most since 2021-22, when they had six.

-The Stars lost on the road at Marian 76-33.

- Freshman Chenoa Moss was the leading point scorer for the Stars with 10 points. 

- Sophomore Kaitlyn Milison collected 6 points.

Star Gazing:


-The Stars offense has been led by Graduate Student Melissa Gomez. Gomez averages 10.4 points per game on the season and has been in double figures in 9 of the last 11 games.    

- Sophomore Lia Saunders has been all over the court for the Stars consistently this season. Saunders has recorded a stat in points, rebounds, and assists in every single game this season aside from two where she did not pick up an assist or score a point.

-Freshman Danielle Washington is a player to always look out for if she catches fire from downtown. Washington is shooting 27.5% from behind the arc but has multiple games where she has knocked down 5 threes. Washington leads the team with 18 made threes. 

-Junior Kamila Gajkowska has the second most rebounds on the team with 68 total rebounds and averages 4 boards per game.

-Concordia Chicago is 1-16 overall and 0-8 in the conference.   

-The Cougars are 0-7 away from CUC. 

-Concordia Chicago averages 49.3 points per game while their opponents average 72.6.
