Dominican Earns Road Win at Blackburn

Box Score Carlinville, Ill. – The Dominican University Women's Basketball team headed to Carlinville, Illinois, for their second straight road contest and looked to bounce back after a loss on Tuesday night.


 Results:
Dominican: 81
Blackburn: 60

 How it Happened:
 -Junior Aya Deiri got the game rolling for the Stars with the first point of the game, 20 seconds in.
-Freshman Kennedy Yost followed it up, getting a point at the free throw line and a jumper to fall just before the three-minute mark of the game.
-The Stars finally took the lead halfway through the first quarter with Junior Lia Saunders making back-to-back shots and Yost making a layup, to give DU a 12-11 lead.
-Dominican had reinforcements enter the match in Freshman Emily Bouaphanh and Junior Teagan Dahl to extend the lead to 10 at the end of the first quarter. Bouaphanh scored 8 points in the final three minutes, while Dahl scored 4 points.
-Blackburn held the Stars scoreless for the first two minutes of the second quarter until Saunders made a layup to get the lead back up to 8.
-The Beavers continued their run to start the second quarter, cutting the Dominican lead to just two. Bouaphanh brought the momentum back on the DU sideline with a made layup that then rallied 7 straight Dominican points. Junior Olivia Genthner, Yost, and Dahl all accounted for buckets in this run.
-The Stars took a 7-point lead into the break despite not hitting a three and shot 36% from the floor. Dominican turned Blackburn over 21 times in the first half and scored 18 points off turnovers.
-DU also had 11 offensive rebounds compared to the Beavers' 3 in the first half.
-After Blackburn made the opening bucket of the second half, the Stars caught their stride. Saunders and Deiri got the party rolling in the second half with back-to-back layups.
-Yost and Bouaphanh stretched the Dominican lead out to 11 with two straight buckets, making the score 43-32.
-DU continued to push the lead further thanks to Yost who scored 8 points in the third quarter and helped Dominican to a 58-45 lead after three quarters of play.
-A 6-0 run by Dominican pushed its lead to 19 and was capped off by a layup by Genthner to start the 4th.
-Blackburn clawed back within 12, but a three by Deiri and clutch free throws by Yost down the stretch guided the Stars to an 81-60 win.

 Shining Stars:
 -Freshman Kennedy Yost had her first career double-double for DU, collecting 22 points and 10 rebounds alongside 3 assists.
 -Freshman Emily Bouaphanh posted career-highs with 17 points and 4 steals, including going 5-9 from the floor in 27 minutes off the bench.
 -Junior Lia Saunders notched 13 points and 4 steals.
 -Junior Aya Deiri dropped 11 points with 2 steals and 2 assists.
 -Sophomore Allannah Jackson did it all for DU, including a 7 steal performance, putting her in a tie for first for most steals in a game in DU Women's Basketball history.

 What's Next:
 Dominican University Women's Basketball improved to 2-1 on the 2025-2026 season. The Stars will continue on the road at North Park University on Saturday, November 22nd for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off against the Vikings.
