Mary Welk was a force on the court for the Stars' volleyball program, racking up a program-best 2,131 career kills, a mark that will never be touched.Â
The 2004 graduate still leads the program in eight statistical categories including sets played (537), points per set (4.91), service aces (223) and digs (2,653). Welk was twice named the University's Student-Athlete of the Year (2003, 2004) while also being honored as the Dominican University Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2004.Â
The Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) honored Welk as the conference's Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003 while the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference named her the Freshman of the Year in 2000. Following her senior season, Welk became the first player in program history to garner AVCA Division III All-American accolades after being named to the honorable mention team.
